The steel costs a bit more, but will last forever if cared for. I saw a brass 1851 in .44 cal. recently (the originals didn't come in .44!) and it looks great. A loyalist arms bess from India will spark as well as my custum lock, at least mine does. They offer more models and are as close to original as Perdisoli. The wood is not walnut.So here goes---Hawkens 45 and 50 are 15/16. Hawkens 54 and larger 1 inch. Seneca 36 and 45 are 13/16. Renegades are 1 inch. While I have a number of guns, this is my first black powder kit and before I screw something up firing it, I thought it would be prudent to post on here for some advice.Shoot loose is the term for the frame lengthening in the thin area above the cylinder when speaking of a Remington style gun. I used 4 overshot cards in place of the nitro card. I found that when shooting with a nitro card I was getting a donut pattern, though the standard Skychief load still significantly reduced pattern size. Also, dont mind the artwork!.
